Democrats want to raise gas tax...now!
10 cent per gallon tax increase on the table
How many four-letter words did you mutter under your breath the last time you filled your gas tank? Have you cut-back on travel and possibly cancelled or changed your family vacation plans because gas is simply too expensive? Would you like to pay more for a gallon of gas and not be able to blame OPEC and market speculators? If you answered yes to the last question you may soon be in luck. Democrats think you should be paying more to the government for gasoline.
The chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. James Oberstar (D-MN), and the chairman of the highway subcommittee, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR), recently used typical liberal scare tactics of financial shortfalls causing massive layoffs if the tax relief was implemented. Now they are on their high horse claiming that we will have at least a 9 billion-dollar deficit to fund highway construction costs starting in October. These tax & spend liberals, who are big environmental wack-jobs to say the least have the chutzpah to complain that the financial shortfall could increase if Americans continue to buy less gasoline.
When discussing the government need for more money, Oberstar said, "we'll put all things on the table, but the gas tax is the cornerstone. Nothing else will work without the underpinning of the higher user fee gas tax."
Speaking as the voice of reason, a rarity found in Washington, is Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.). He came up with the radical idea that congress should first reduce spending on pet projects, better known as earmarks. "I'm not going to let the Senate spend all this money when nobody is looking, especially when we refuse to stop wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on earmarks," DeMint said.
What the Democrats and their media conspirators are hiding from the public is the real reason why they want to stick average Americans with higher gas bills.
No, it's not because they want higher costs at the pump because they want to punish people for using gasoline. Your brilliant blogger established that fact months ago. This time it's to please their friends in the the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, who are very dependable sources to fund their re-election campaigns.
"When in doubt look for union clout." I have been saying that for years, call it a result of witnessing politics in Chicago for over thirty years. That is exactly the case here. When it comes to Democrats and power, they place the will of trial lawyers and union bosses well-ahead of their constituents and what is best for the American people.
How do you like your Democratic Party now?
Israel's disastrous prisoner exchange
Notorious baby-killer set free for dead bodies
I was physically ill last week when I learned who Israel released from their prison for the dead remains of two Israeli soldier killed in the 2006 Lebanon war. Samir Kuntar can only be described as a monster. This individual is the very definition of evil in human form. In 1979 he murdered four people including two children. One the kids was a four-year old girl Einat Haran, who was bludgeoned to death with the butt of his rifle. A pathologists report confirmed her brain matter on his gun.
Israel has a policy of bringing back every soldier from the battlefield at any cost. This wartime ethic was instituted early in the Jewish State's existence to instill loyalty and commitment from its troops. A great policy at one time, but today a suicide pack.
In addition to Kuntar, Israel released 4 other prisoners and the body of 199 enemy combatants for the bodies of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev. Israel has been conducting lopsided exchanges for decades, but this time Israel sent a message to hear enemies, which simply said you have no reason to keep our sons and daughters alive. We will return ruthless killers to attack us at a later date and all we expect back are corpses.
Israel has taken away all incentives for terror groups to keep Jewish soldiers alive. Kill them and stack the bodies high to exchange later for our captured comrades who can attempt to kill Jews again at a later date.
Jews will argue to the end of time who is the biggest threat to their existence. Today the answer is their own government. 22 of 25 cabinet member approved this swap and the opposition leaders including the more hard line Likud Party was silent over the deal.
Daniel Pipes wrote an article for the Jerusalem Post that outlines this disturbing event, but does offer a little positive news. Kuntar is no longer the responsibility of Israel to care for. Now the Jewish State if it so chooses can show him the butt or the barrel of a gun to his head. An eye for an eye.
Unfortunately don't expect any brave or tough decisions made by Ehud Olmert. Only more suicide packs.

I read your piece about Carter, and the only question I have is this: Do you think it is possible to go any further back in history than the 1970's to ascertain the cause for the problems in the middle east? If you do you might find that it is a little more complex than "Carter is an unpatriotic idiot." Here's a clue: Carter was not the first American to "meddle" in Iranian affairs.
