L'Shana Tova Happy New Year

Happy and Healthy 5768
Rosh Hashana begins at sundown tonight

Tonight Jews all over the world will observe Rosh Hashanah, commonly known as the Jewish New Year. A more accurate translation would be "head of the year" or "first of the year." Unlike New Years in the United States and Europe, which is set by the Gregorian calendar, Jews will not be attending wild parties or drinking til they pass out this evening. Tonight Jews will attend synagogue, observing one of the holiest days of the year.

If there are any similarities between New Year in America and Rosh Hashanah it is that people traditionally use this day to improve themselves, better known as "resolutions." People reflect on the previous year and decide how they can improve their lives as well as be a better person. Rosh Hashanah begins "Yamim Noraim" or Days of Repentance, which is a ten day period ending with Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. During this period, we take a hard look at our lives and remember our sins of the past year, so we can repent before Yom Kippur.

Paulies Point wishes everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year. L' Shana Tova

Trophy Wife to State Representative
Julie Hamos uses CTA to display ignorance

When appellate court judge Alan Greiman married Julie Hamos, an attorney 18 years his junior, he was undoubtedly setting the stage for himself and his bride to become a Chicago power couple.

Hamos has been labeled Greiman's trophy wife ever since I can remember. To her credit she does have the education and professional credentials to stand on her own two feet. However, a law degree in conjunction with a strong resume doesn't mean you are the sharpest knife in the drawer.

When State Rep. Jan Schakowsky became the Democratic nominee for Congress in 1998, Hamos was her hand picked successor. The Democratic machine pumped in minimal, but adequate money to her sure win campaign. Her financial disclosures read like a Democratic machine Bar Mitzvah invite list. Since your brilliant blogger ran the campaign of her opponent, Jonathan Walker, I learned quickly that Hamos had more going for her in the looks department than upstairs. To bad the election was held in a district that would elect Sadam Hussein if he had a (D) next to his name.

Currently the Chicagoland area is on "Doomsday watch," which is the name given to September 16Th or the day the Chicago Transit Authority will drastically increase fares as well as eliminate routes and jobs if the state of Illinois won't cough up more money. Hamos has made herself the CTA savior with a bill, SB 572, to increase the regional sales tax in a six county area to rescue the public transit system.

The fact of the matter is that the CTA is a bureaucratic mess that can never be rescued. Raising taxes is the typical Democratic solution to every problem, regardless the incompetence behind the system. The area that would see the tax increase is already one of the highest taxed regions in the country that continues to experience services cut, while taxes go up. Mrs. Hamos, what does that tell you?

It tells me that the system, not money, is the issue. The CTA is a prime example of a system that needs to be overhauled instead of sticking the average citizen with higher taxes. The increase may be minimal, but that is not the point. Once bureaucrats are given a dime they next want a dollar.

Hamos and her lack of wisdom only knows the Democratic playbook. Keep union workers happy and raise every ones taxes to remedy a problem. Unfortunately you can't put a band aid on a gun shot wound.

The Ron Paul Follies
Why Paulie continues to be amazed and disappointed

Why can't I stop writing about Ron Paul? Please understand that the current Presidential race has been hard on your brilliant blogger. Paul has been a champion of limited government for decades. His Domestic policy views should be the standard every Republican is compared to. Unfortunately, the Texas Representative rides the short bus to the foreign policy class.

In a recent interview with Bill O'Reilly, Paul displayed his simplistic world view. His answer to every question is that the Neocons have hijacked the Party. When it comes to Iran, Paul referred to their quest for nuclear weapons as acting "logically and defensively." He admits that he doesn't view Iran as a major threat, even though they are the worlds biggest sponsor of terrorism. Once again it's part of the Neocons plan to overhaul the middle east, "they want another war."

Paul has become part of the blame America first crowd. He doesn't believe Islamic extremists want to destroy our way of life, everything is the fault of our foreign policy.

How a man can be so brilliant regarding Domestic policy and so ignorant about foreign affairs, boggles the mind.

Paulie

While my daughter was on-line researching for a project about her Grandmother, she was a bit upset to see your blog. Julie Hamos a trophy wife! How about some respect for the office she holds, and for the people who voted her in. Sounds to me like little Paulie is upset that he couldn't get the job done. Couldn't get your guy in...so why not blame it on everything other than her campaign manager was incompetent. It has to be because she has money - she is beautiful (yes she is) - must be to many Democrats in her district. Let's just go with the truth...you couldn't get the job done and get your guy in. So let's do some name calling, and on the New Year. You should be ashamed of yourself. Well...I guess you do have a few more days. You can always ask for forgiveness and start all over. Let me use this time to set the record straight...it is not Mrs. Hamos, it's Mrs. Greiman. But you little Paulie...you may call her The Honorable Julie Hamos. Trophy Wife...I'm sure my Dad would love that. He would think that was a compliment!

Dear Julie's Daughter,

When your mother made the decision to run for political office or should I say was asked if she wanted the job given to her, she knew (should have) that she would be the subject of public scrutiny.

As far as respect for the office she holds, sorry no. Where was your mom when Gov. Blagojevich appointed an adviser and follower of Louis Farrakhan to the Hate Crimes Commission? She was silent!

As a Jew I'm physically ill from the silence coming from Jewish Democrats who refuse to speak up against fellow Dems and Progressive activists who are vehemently anti-Semitic. I'm sure your mother is oblivious to the growing left-wing hate.

As a state rep. has she ever seen a tax hike she didn't like? Does she understand what the words, "government accountability," mean? Her CTA bill demonstrates a meager understanding of the crisis facing public transportation.

If your daughter was upset about my blog, I am truly sorry. Grandchildren should only have positive views of their grandparents. However, what she read is your fault. The Pioneer Press and Chicago Newspapers may kiss Julie's tuchas, but people who care about how their taxes are spent or fear for their childrens future living in a State that is modeling itself after Cuba, will speak their minds. It's that whole Freedom of Speech thing, in the Constitution, look it up and monitor your kids internet useage.

As far as the Trophy Wife label, I'd be pissed too if I was you. However, she has had that label long before I had my Bar Mitzvah, so don't get mad at me.

BTW, thanks for the laughs regarding the campaign. If you think I am agry over a campaign I managed as a favor for an ill person who wanted to run for office, that's your problem.
