Tuesdays with Paulie on Wednesday

Sorry for the Post delay. My oldest began pre-school Tuesday and that is where my attention was focused. Thank you for asking, he loved every minute of it.

Jerry Lewis raises 63 million for Muscular Dystrophy
Partial gay slur used in a joke gains attention not 67 million raised

After being on the air for nearly 18 hours, Jerry Lewis was not exactly of sound mind or body. While struggling to stay awake to eventually raise a record 63.7 million dollars for MD, the 81-year comic legend went into performance mode. He started introducing members of the audience as members of a family.

"Oh, your family has come to see you. You remember Bart, your oldest son, Jesse, the illiterate fag ...," Lewis said.

The comic caught himself before finishing the derogatory term toward homosexuals, but it was too late. It became the main story for the media even though the man just stayed up all night to raise nearly 68 million to combat a horrendous disease. Of course the self proclaimed voice of homosexuals, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) immediately took action against Lewis.

"Jerry Lewis' on-air use of this kind of anti-gay slur is simply unacceptable," GLAAD President Neil Giuliano said in a statement, adding that the comics remark "feeds a climate of hatred and intolerance that could incite anti-gay violence."

Neil have a big cup of shut the f@#k up! The mistake Lewis made was using the word or part of it at this type of venue, which is family oriented. However anyone with half a brain knows no malice was intent and considering the circumstances, GLAAD should be grateful that under the mental and physical anguish Lewis was under, he was able to realize, though in mid sentence, that the word was inappropriate.

My readers know that I am a strong proponent of gay rights. I am also very critical of the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual (GLB) movement due to their inability to understand the real discrimination they face as well as the fact that they are often their worst enemy. This is a perfect example.

Mr. Giuliano claims that the remarks made by Lewis feeds hatred and intolerance, which incites violence toward the GLB community. No sir, you making a mountain out of a mole hill creates disdain for homosexuals. Knowing full well that no ill will was intended by Lewis, yet still using the incident to create publicity at the expense of an old man who just spent 18 hours busting his hump to help sick children, is what will incite violence towards your community.

Watch the video and ask yourself if this comic genius and great humanitarian promoted violence. By the way, Lewis did apologize and took full responsibility.

Thank you from across the pond
