Politician or Prostitute...What's the difference?

Chicago Democrats in bed with organized labor
African Americans deprived of jobs and lower prices

When presented with an opportunity to bring hundreds of decent paying jobs as well as lower priced groceries, clothing and appliances to an economically challenged area, what kind of politician would stand in the way of such community improvements? The answer is Democrats in bed with organized labor.

After years of battling for the right to come to Chicago, Wal-Mart opened its first and only city store in September of 2006. Eighteen months later this one store has brought in over 7 million dollars in sales tax and 440 new jobs, which pay an average of $12 an hour. This particular location is currently in the process of hiring more employees.

In the city's south side Chatham neighborhood a vacant and desolate lot sits idle with garbage and old auto-parts scattered throughout. Wal-Mart wants to build a second store on this very site, bringing hundreds of jobs and lower-priced goods to this African American community. City politicians backed by big labor have said no.

Wal-Mart is America's largest retailer and grocer. They are despised by unions and political-leftists because their workers are non-union. As the Chicago Tribune recently pointed out, "Organized labor is determined to protect its unionized ranks at area Jewel and Dominick's grocery stores. That means it's determined to keep Wal-Mart and its big grocery departments out of Chicago."

Down the street from the vacant lot is a Lowe's that also employs non-union workers. However this 117,000 square foot store doesn't sell groceries. Interesting how nobody objected to this non-union business opening in the same neighborhood.

When it comes to politicians choosing organized labor and their greedy monopolies over the benefits of free-market competition, which provide lower priced goods and better services for the consumer, the only way to combat this unfair practice is for the people to speak up.

Alderman Howard Brookins (D), who represents the people in this area, knows that his constituents are desperate for Wal-Mart to bring their jobs and lower-priced goods to the area. He hasn't given up the fight and hopefully neither has Wal-Mart.

Unfortunately Brookins alone can not defeat the political and labor forces standing in his way. It will take other alderman and a mayor with political courage who is not beholden to the unions to bring Wal-Mart to this lower-middle class African American community.

In the meantime the single mothers, unemployed and underemployed residents of Chatham can continue buying milk at over $4 a gallon and eggs at over 2$ a dozen at the big union grocery stores, while the middle and upper-class citizens in the suburbs can enjoy these goods at nearly half the price.

Just doesn't seem right. Then again when did right and wrong or helping the poor really matter to politicians more concerned about getting re-elected than serving the people they represent.

Sadam paid for congressional trips...Doh!
anti-war Dems unknowing guests of homicidal dictator

Let's take a moment for a reality check and say something everyone knows, but refuses to publicly say. When the words Michigan, Middle-East and Charity are found in relationship to one another, there is a very good chance that the organization is a front for Islamic-extremist groups or a country that wishes that Israel and the United States would perish.

When Muthanna Al-Hanooti, a public relations coordinator for such a group, approached three anti-war lawmakers if they were interested in taking a trip to Iraq, alarm bells should of went off. However when you are Democratic Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington, David Bonior of Michigan and Mike Thompson of California, chances are you were holding the door open when God was handing out common sense.

Federal prosecutors have announced that the trip, which took place in October 2002 was financed by Saddam Hussein's intelligence agency. Al-Hanooti is being charged with conspiracy to act as an unregistered agent of a foreign government, illegally purchasing Iraqi oil and lying to authorities. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held on 100k bond.

If you listen to talk-radio, some callers have said they believe the three Democrats should be charged with treason. One nut job on the Hugh Hewitt show even stated they should be executed. Lets have another reality check. Stupidity is not a crime. As much as I despise the politics of these three men, I do believe them when they say they had no clue the trip was sponsored by Iraqi intelligence. In fact the words "no clue" are very fitting for not only this sad situation, but these guys political careers.

Two of the three representatives still hold their seats and many people are calling for their resignation. Now that idea does have merit. Unfortunately ignorance and poor judgement are not crimes. As congressman these men should be held to a higher standard, but ignorance and poor judgement aren't rare amongst elected officials, in fact I believe it's the norm.

The final decision will come from the voters who have sent these men to congress. It will be their decision to re-elect them or send them home. That is how a democracy works and that is how it should be. Unfortunately people get the government they deserve because we don't hold our elected officials accountable for their actions. Government of the people, by the people and for the people can only exist if the people demand it.
