Politics brings out the worst in people

8th District Congresswoman, Melissa Bean (D), has been running a television commercial claiming her opponent, Dave McSweeney (R), believes that abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape, incest and life of the mother. Bean claims that McSweeney's position was noted in a Wall Street Journal article in June. WSJ sourced a campaign spokesman, which they clarified in this past Saturday's edition. Bean's campaign also sourced an interview their opponent did on a local cable television program,"Public Affairs," hosted by Jeff Berkowitz, a self-appointed journalist. Berkowitz is crying foul claiming the Bean campaign "chopped up video and took statements out of context." The fact of the matter is that McSweeney is pro-life, but does support legal abortions in reported cases of rape and incest, or to protect the life of the mother."

Congresswoman Bean and her campaign knew before they started airing this commercial that it was false. Even now after the press has exposed the truth, Bean is continuing to run the advertisement, refusing to withdraw it from the airways. Shame on you Congresswoman.

Only Republicans can be guilty
Media gives Dems a pass

If you still believe that there is no left-wing bias in the mainstream media, please allow me to introduce exhibit 409, featuring Senate minority leader Harry Reid (D-NV). In 2004 Reid sold property he hadn't personally owned in 3 years for 1.1 million dollars. Regarding the land deal, Reid never disclosed to Congress that he first sold land to a friend's limited liability company back in 2001 and took an ownership stake in the company. He collected the million dollar plus payout when the company sold the land again in 2004. Reid reported the sale as personal claiming he didn't believe the 2001 deal ever meant the land transferred ownership.

It also has been revealed that Reid has been using campaign funds to pay out bonuses to campaign staff and employees at the Washington D.C. Ritz Carlton, where he owns a condo. Campaign finance laws strictly prohibit using campaign money to be used for anything not related to the campaign. Reid has undoubtedly violated this law, but I ask you, where is the mainstream press when it comes to reporting the violations of the Senate minority leader?

Let's put it this way. Take the above paragraphs and replace the name "Reid" with any Republican elected official. Do you think the network news, NY Times, Washington Post and CNN would still bury the story? If you are honest with yourself, you know that would not be the case. In fact the above mentioned leftist propaganda voices would make it the lead story until there is new Mark Foley information to report.

The truth is that the mainstream press always treats Republicans accused of wrongdoing as guilty or part of a big conspiracy, while Democrats are given the benefit of the doubt. Even if Dems admit their guilt, you'll find the story buried behind a report on medical advances to treat anal warts.

Sports Shorts

How about them Bears! Coming back from a 20 point deficit with no help from your offense is a miracle or a sign that it is your year. For whatever reason the Bears offense was plain awful Monday night. However the sign of a great team is when part of your club is performing poorly, the other parts step it up and compensate to provide victory. Kudos go out to Cardinal Rookie QB Matt Leinhart who did a great job against one of the best defenses in the games history. We will be talking about him for the next decade.

Cubs sign Lou Pinella to take over the managers gig from Dusty Baker. Pinella is a good choice for the losers of the North Side. However the necessary change needed for the Cubs isn't at manger, but at General Manager and President. Cubs also need to accept the fact that Pitchers Prior and Wood are done and should of been released or traded after the 2005 season. These guys get injured easier than a drunken midget playing in a professional Rugby match.

Indiana steals Gordon away from Illinois, so the Chicago media and Illini alumni would have you believe. For those who have no idea what I am talking about, allow me to bring you up to speed. Eric Gordon is arguably the best high school basketball player in the country, residing in Indianapolis. Last year when Mike Davis continued bringing the IU basketball program down, Gordon verbally committed to Illinois. Always wanting to stay near home, Champaign was his next best option since Indiana was in turmoil.

Earlier this year the scenario changed when Davis was replaced by Kelvin Sampson formerly of Oklahoma. Gordon grew up wanting to play at Indiana and the closer to home the better. Indiana also had in their arsenal assistant coach Jeff Meyer, who coached Gordon's father at Liberty University. The Gordon family welcomed Sampson and nature simply took it's course.

Indiana did not do anything wrong in recruiting Gordon. Blaming a teenage boy for changing his mind is ludicrous. The fact of the matter is that a 17 year old kid is making the biggest decision of his young life, so he deserves some slack and has the right to change his mind. Illini nation grow up.

Thank you God...Thank you!

On Wednesday October 18th, my youngest son Noah Aaron will turn 1 year old. Shannon and I are grateful that we have been blessed with a second healthy happy child that brings joy to everyone he meets. Noah's older brother Ethan has been a great big brother already showing signs of being very protective of his younger brother. Words cannot describe how much we love our boys and are grateful to God for granting us these blessings. Happy Birthday Noah, mommy and daddy love you.

Paul-

McSweeney isn't exactly without sin. His commercial running right now says that Bean doesn't support Army troops policing the border. In truth, Bean is a border wall supporter who doesn't want our troops doing this work on our soil. Since I generally don't like the idea of Army troops playing cop on our soil, and the law generally probits the army from participating in arrests, searches, etc. that domestic police usually handle, I would tend to agree with her.

Hey, let's face it. All of these pols are soundbite hacks. My favorite right now is the one attacking Duckworth (Dem running for Hyde's vacant seat) where they're talking about Mexicans coming over the border and using $50 Billion in social services if legalized in some way.
