A Forum for Ideas and Debate?
Not on Leftist College Campuses

Recently the College Republicans at Columbia University invited members of the Minuteman Project to speak about border security and illegal immigration in a public forum at the University. To the surprise of many (not your brilliant blogger), Some students began rushing the stage, chanting racial slurs toward Marvin Stewart an African American member of the project and threatening bodily harm toward the guests.

Agree or disagree with the Minuteman Project, college campuses are forums for ideas and debate, but that whole notion is nearly dead in our country. Schools such as Columbia, UC Berkeley and the University of Wisconsin no longer permit the sharing of ideas. They are institutions of leftist indoctrination, refusing to hear conservative and moderate ideas even to the point where students are being brainwashed to believe those who are not of a far-left mindset aren't just wrong, they are evil.

You will find these schools and many others are hotbeds for anti-American, anti-Capitalism and anti-Semitic thinking. These so-called institutions of higher learning are producing a new wave of hateful people, whose views are that America, Israel and Religion are evil. The days of honest debate and dialogue on our college campuses are over.

Another Reason to Legalize Marijuana

In my opinion no disease destroys a human being worse than Alzheimers. My family and I watched in horror as the illness ate away at my grandmother, taking away her mind and leaving a shell of a person before she finally passed away. Anyone who has ever had a loved one become an Alzheimers victim knows what I am talking about. Recently scientists at the Scripps Research Institute in California have discovered that the active ingredient in Marijuana, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC can prevent the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from breaking down more effectively than commercially marketed drugs.

Currently Marijuana is used to relieve glaucoma and can help reduce side effects from cancer and AIDS treatment. I have adamantly supported the use of Marijuana for medical purposes ever since it was learned of it's medicinal benefits. However, I must say that I do take it a step further and support legalizing pot altogether.

I am not going to get in a drug legalization debate at the moment, but I will say that my friends on the political right who don't believe Marijuana should be used for any purpose including as a prescription drug are ignorant. Everyday doctors prescribe thousands of drugs that have far greater negative affects than Marijuana. Pot is not addicting, but at the same time we have prescribed enough pain killers to create a new generation of drug addicts.

Take it from a 19 year cancer survivor who has gone through Chemotherapy. For the sake of those going through painful treatments and future potential Alzheimer's victims, let's not stand in the way of medical Marijuana and let's rethink the idea of legalizing pot altogether.

Sports this weekend

Last week was my first losing week beating Vegas once and losing to the oddsmakers three times. For the football season I am 6-6 and 1-0 in the bonus upset pick.

College Football Saturday

Northwestern finds themselves a 21 point underdog at Wisconsin. The Wildcats have already lost to a Division AA school and with no passing game to speak of will be lucky to put up a touchdown. Take Wisconsin to cover, 34-6.

Notre Dame is playing their easiest game of the year, finding themselves a 32 point favorite against Stanford. The Irish should demolish Stanford and cover the 32 points. Irish win 45-6

NFL Sunday

The Bears are the talk of the NFL and will continue their winning ways as they cover the 10 point line against te Bills. 27-6

New Orleans finds themselves a 6.5 point ast home against Tampa. Look for the Saints to get back on the winning track covering the spread against the Bucs. 24-13

Upset of the week: Detroit is a 6.5 point underdog in Minnesota against the Vikings. I believe Detroit will win outright. Big game for QB John Kitna

Paulie
