Let the Madness Begin
Iowa Caucus Tonight
Win or Bust for Edwards and Huckabee
That moment you all have been waiting for is finally here. Tonight Iowans get together and Caucus, officially kicking off the 2008 race for the White House. The fact that it is January 3rd and I still haven't put away my Menorah from Hanukkah tells me that it's still too early for politics. Too bad there isn't a snooze button I can hit and have the political season start a few weeks later. It is what it is.
In all honesty tonight should be very interesting. I expect a very close race on both sides of the aisle with a minor upset stemming from the Democratic side. I predict Edwards will win tonight with Obama second and Hillary a disappointing third place. Look for those second round voters to put Edwards over the top, but barely above Obama.
The GOP race will result in a Romney win, while Huckabee takes the number 2 spot. I do expect a very tight 3rd place finish between McCain and Thompson with the war hero taking the bronze medal. A 3rd place finish for McCain would put him in an excellent position heading into New Hampshire where he is polling well.
Anything less then a first place finish for Huckabee or Edwards will simply be the beginning of the end for both campaigns. Huckabee is already losing momentum, while Edwards has all his eggs in the Iowa basket.
The Caucuses start soon, so put on your flannel and grab that scarf...it's cold outside and it isn't because Hillary is nearby.
Paulie
